The Emakumeen Euskal Bira was a women’s stage race held in Basque Country, Spain until it’s cancellation in 2019. It was also known as Iurreta-Emakumeen Bira, or more commonly Emakumeen Bira.
History
Emakumeen Bira ran for 32 consecutive years from 1988 until it’s cancellation after the 2019 event.
It wasn’t until 2018 that the race was included in the World Tour series. At the time it was the longest continually running women’s race to feature on the calendar.
Records
The record for most race wins is three, jointly held by German rider Hanka Kupfernagel (1997, 1998, 1999) and Spanish rider Joane Somarriba (1991, 2000, 2004).
The longest race was five stages, held in 2007.
The most wins by nationality goes to Spain, with Spanish riders winning seven times.
